About This Waiver
The BI waiver (Brain Injury) is a Minnesota Medical Assistance waiver for people with an acquired or traumatic brain injury who would otherwise require care in a nursing facility or a neurobehavioral hospital. It funds residential supports — including 245D-licensed community residential settings (CRS) with brain-injury programming, adult foster care, and customized living — plus behavioral supports, day services, and in-home services.
The BI waiver serves people with an acquired or traumatic brain injury that results in significant functional impairment, who need nursing facility or neurobehavioral hospital level of care. Eligibility is determined through a MnCHOICES assessment with documentation of the brain injury.
